New Trailer Uses Black Magic to Summon the ‘Pyewacket’

Be careful what you wish for…

In Pyewacket, from director Adam MacDonald (Backcountry), a frustrated girl (Nicole Muñoz) attempts an occult ritual but awakens something sinister in the woods instead.

Hailing out of Canada, the psychological thriller, from the executive producer of The Witch, is actually about a young girl who performs an occult ritual to evoke a witch to kill her mother.

We are huge fans of this indie gem here on Bloody.

I exclaimed that this “slow burn [film] delivers brooding heavy metal horror,” while Joe Lipsett wrote that the “occult film succeeds by teasing and delaying the horror.”

Check out IFC Midnight’s new trailer below, via Collider, who revealed a March 23rd U.S release on VOD.

IFC Midnight recently acquired U.S. rights to the film, which is also screening at the forthcoming Glasgow Frightfest. It will also arrive in the UK on digital HD April 16th and DVD on April 23rd from Signature Entertainment.

In Pyewacket

After her father dies, teenager Leah is forced, by her unstable mother, to leave her friends behind and move to a house in the woods. Feeling isolated and hopeless, Leah turns to Black Magic to release her anger. She naively performs an occult ritual found in a book on her bedroom shelf to invoke the spirit of a witch to kill her mother. Terrified by strange occurrences, and stricken by guilt, Leah desperately tries to reverse the spell, but soon realizes she has awoken something in the woods… and nothing can prepare her for the terror that has been unleashed.
