Shudder Acquires Unapologetically Violent ‘Downrange’!

Published

on

One of my favorite films out of last year’s TIFF was Ryuhei Kitamura‘s Midnight Madness title Downrange, which I called “gloriously vicious and mean-spirited.” For those patiently awaiting, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Shudder has acquired the film and will release it on their streaming service this coming April 26, 2018!

In the throwback to 70’s thrillers:

Six college students are carpooling cross-country when one of their tires blows out on a desolate stretch of country road. Getting out to fix the flat, they quickly discover that this was no accident. The tire was shot out. With their vehicle incapacitated, the group is pinned down and mercilessly attacked by an unseen assailant as they desperately attempt to find a way to escape.

It stars newcomer Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson (Insidious: Chapter 2), Rod Hernandez-Farella, Anthony Kirlew, Alexa Yeames (The CW’s The Originals), and Jason Tobias (ABC Television’s Notorious).

Kitamura directed the action-packed Japanese zombie film Versus, as well as AliveGodzilla: Final Wars, Lionsgate’s Clive Barker adaptation of The Midnight Meat Train, and WWE’s slasher No One Lives.

Here’s a previously released clip that sets the stage for the film, showing the exact moment these kids realize they’re fucked. You have no idea how much chaos ensues (watch for my review). I love watching the smiles wiped clean off their faces…
