‘The Darkest Minds’ Trailer Survives the Apocalypse With Special Powers

After years in development, Jennifer Yuh Nelson adapted the first book of the awesome sounding The Darkest Minds YA trilogy by Alexandra Bracken, which is described as combining superhero conventions with tones of coming-of-age stories such as Stand By Me and postapocalyptic survivor tales like “The Walking Dead.” The first book tells of a 16-year-old with telekinetic powers who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government. Amandla Stenberg, Mandy Moore, and Gwendoline Christie lead the cast of the film, which 20th Century Fox will release in theaters on August 3, 2018.

When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.

Here’s the trailer that has more of a Hunger Games meets X-Men vibe…
