Chris Columbus Says Next ‘Gremlins’ Film is “Almost Definitely a Reboot”

Gremlins

We’ve been writing articles about a new Gremlins film for several years here on Bloody Disgusting, and at this time, nothing is yet 100% official on that front. But like he has been over the years, Chris Columbus, the writer of Joe Dante’s original classic, is still insisting that it’s in the works, and he says it’s taken the form of a reboot.

Speaking with Metro UK, Columbus provided the latest update.

Gremlins… we are actively talking about that. So that’s what I am working on with my production company, 1492 Pictures,” Columbus told the site.

He added, “It will almost definitely be a reboot.”

Of course, the term “reboot” is a loose one, either implying a full on fresh start or a Jurassic World-type sequel that also reboots a franchise… depending on who you ask. We can only assume the next Gremlins film, if it ever gets off the ground, would fall more in the latter category, telling a new story that still honors the existence of the originals.

But that’s pure speculation on my part, at this time.
