Before he slipped back into his most iconic role for “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” a role he has now officially retired from playing, Bruce Campbell turned in some of his best work as Elvis Presley/Sebastian Haff in Don Coscarelli’s Bubba Ho-Tep, an oddball gem that Coscarelli has been planning a sequel to for some time. Campbell, however, has no interest.
Campbell has been saying for years that he’s not interested in starring in a Bubba Ho-Tep sequel, and he’s doubling down this week to confirm it’s officially off the table for him.
He tweeted, in response to a fan inquiring about Bubba Ho-Tep 2…
“I have officially retired from playing Elvis as well. Joe and Don both know this. To me, each character has a lifespan. Elvis was best as a one shot deal – an iconic character in a really unique setting, guided by a great director. Why repeat?”
Campbell told EW recently, “Don Coscarelli, god bless him, go make it. Get somebody else. They had Ron Perlman at one point. Knock yourself out. I don’t want to stop you from making this, but I don’t want to [do it]. So, that one I’m just going to let go.”
Since you’re pushing it, I have officially retired from playing Elvis as well. Joe and Don both know this.
