Taissa Farmiga Investigates Something Spooky in First Official ‘The Nun’ Image

The leading lady of the core Conjuring franchise is of course Vera Farmiga, and Vera’s sister Taissa Farmiga (“American Horror Story”) joins the fold in Corin Hardy’s The Nun this year, the fifth installment in the ever-expanding Conjuring Universe. Farmiga plays Sister Irene, a nun tasked with investigating a suicide at a convent.

Ahead of tomorrow’s trailer, Empire Magazine just got their hands on the first official image from The Nun, giving us our first look at Taissa Farmiga’s Sister Irene.

The period and the setting and the scope of it hark back to really classic, old-school, scarlet-blooded horror films,” Hardy told the outlet. “And I loved that the story was a character-driven mystery as well as a scary horror movie.”

In The Nun

“When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in The Conjuring 2, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.”

The Nun stars Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir (“A Better Life”) as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga (TV’s “American Horror Story”) as Sister Irene, Jonas Bloquet (Elle) as local villager Frenchie, Charlotte Hope (TV’s “Game of Thrones”) as the abbey’s Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu (“Toni Erdmann”) as Sister Oana, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2 role as the title character.

Say your prayers as The Nun returns to theaters on September 7, 2018.
