American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive in the world, has just announced a theatrical partnership with genre icon Don Coscarelli, which will bring several of his films – including a few of the Phantasm movies! – back into theaters.
“AGFA will distribute restorations of Don Coscarelli’s PHANTASM, PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD, PHANTASM IV: OBLIVION, and BUBBA HO-TEP to theaters beginning October 1. This is AGFA’s latest theatrical collaboration following distribution partnerships with Celestial Pictures (THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN), Arrow Films (DEEP RED), Severin Films (SANTA SANGRE), and Vinegar Syndrome (DOLEMITE).
“AGFA is super-proud to be the new theatrical home for Don’s most epic works,” said AGFA theatrical sales manager Bret Berg. “We grew up idolizing these unique horror visions full of surrealistic sci-fi, gothic horror and killer music; to breathe new life into the films is a dark dream fulfilled. Hats off to one of the most fiercely independent genre creators we know, one who’s influenced generations of filmmakers including more yet to come.”
