Shane Black Reshot ‘The Predator’ Finale to Make it Scarier

The Predator

Shane Black is a seasoned filmmaker, so it’s a bit surprising that he fell into the trap that has consumed many horror films in the past – he filmed the grand finale to The Predator during the day. AvP Galaxy pulled some pages from the latest issue of Empire Magazine, which confirms that Black not only reshot the finale, but changed the setting from day to night.  The result is night and day (sorry, I couldn’t help myself).

“The first time we shot the third act it was daytime,” Black reveals to the magazine. “It’s all this spooky stuff but then its bright sunlight. It just didn’t work. So I said ‘Ummm, can we do this again at night?'”

Not only did he change the time of day, but he moved it to the forest and made several other major changes (spoiler warning).

Black once again explains that he wanted to make the Predators scary and mysterious again, which is what gave birth to the Upgrade Predator that he says is “bigger, meaner and nasty as hell.”

He adds: “Ten feet tall and midnight black, bristling with spines, skin thickened with chitinous organic armour – the product of harvesting DNA From the deadliest creatures on every world it’s hunted. The ultimate expression of Predator dominance. It is, it’s fair to say, one giant, ugly motherfucker.”

In the film,

“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”

Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Edward James Olmos, Alfie Allen and Yvonne Strahovski star.

Jake Busey plays the son of Gary Busey’s Predator 2 character.

The Predator returns on September 14, 2018.
