While Turbo Kid was set in an alternate apocalyptic 1997, the filmmakers collective of François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell are rewinding a little further back in time with a more realistic look in Summer of ’84 (read our review), which opens in limited theaters on August 3, 2018.
Sounding like a modern take on The ‘Burbs, the film takes place in the summer, 1984: a perfect time to be a carefree 15-year-old. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous.
The first trailer not only captured the nostalgia of The ‘Burbs, but it also takes inspiration from Goonies, “Strangers Things”, and A Nightmare On Elm Street. Now, here’s a new piece of art out of the Fantasia Film Festival that brings atmosphere to the summer of 1984.
“Mad Men’s” Rich Sommer and “Riverdale’s” Tiera Skovbye star in the film, alongside Graham Verchere, Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, and Cory Gruter-Andrew.
