Universal Pictures continues to enjoy the monstrous success of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the latest Jurassic Park sequel that takes the dinosaurs off the island and drops them into a Gothic horror movie setting. With the film is already dated for home video, it continues to devour at the box office as it has just surpassed $400M domestically, putting it at $1.25B worldwide.
As I previously wrote, with a “modest” reported budget of $170M and a marketing budget to match, the Jurassic World sequel has long surpassed the profit zone and is now swimming in profits. But it’s a lesson to all of Hollywood to reign it the fuck in. Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story cost over $250M to produce with Warners Justice League also allegedly topping $300M. The ramifications of such outrageous budgets create the need for almost a 40% more surplus at the box office just to break even. It’s stupid.
Jurassic World ended its run at $1.6B, while crossing $1B internationally. It’s unclear if Fallen Kindom will land in the same zone, but either way, it’s already a huge success story that warrants more sequels, theme parks, and whatever else they can conjure up (fine, I’ll buy the Dr. Pepper cans).
