As Promised, Fox Is Releasing ‘The Predator’ With an “R” Rating for “Strong Bloody Violence”

Twentieth Century Fox presents "The Predator."

Way back in early 2017, Shane Black had promised that The Predator would be gory and rated “R,” and it’s been confirmed this week that no behind the scenes shenanigans have changed that. Unlike The Meg and likely Venom, the return of the Predator franchise will arrive on the big screen with “Strong bloody violence, language throughout, and crude sexual references.”

“PG-13 is for pussies,” Black tweeted last year. “Spines bleed… a lot.”

In Shane Black’s The Predator

“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”

Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Edward James Olmos, Alfie Allen and Yvonne Strahovski also star. Jake Busey plays the son of Gary Busey’s Predator 2 character.

The Predator returns on September 14, 2018.
