If they’re good enough for Cage, they’re good enough for us all.
Back in 2012, Fangoria Magazine had dubbed Nicolas Cage a “Master of Horror” for a cover story on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance that got a lot of fans talking, mostly because the moniker didn’t quite seem to fit Cage at the time. But here in 2018, fresh off Mom and Dad and the just-released Mandy, well, maybe Fango wasn’t so wrong to call him one… eh?
Promoting Mandy, Cage just did an interview with Esquire, wherein he talked about his interest in the horror genre. It all began with two movies in particular, he says.
“I was spending quite a bit of time in England, and I had bought a collection of all the Hammer horror films and was enjoying watching each and every one of them,” Cage recalled, not specifying an exact time period. “I began to become quite enamored with a filmmaker named Terence Fisher, who did Curse of the Werewolf and Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell. These movies, I thought, were quite profound and not only in the horror aspect, but also in a kind of philosophical aspect.“
Cage added, “I was a fan of the genre largely as a result of those.”
