One of the highlights of this year’s ongoing Salem Horror Fest (in Salem, Massachusetts, naturally) was a 30th anniversary screening of 1988 cult classic Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, which was attended by Cassandra Peterson herself. Peterson took part in a Q&A session before the movie, sharing fun stories about Vincent Price and, well, her new cereal.
During the chat, wherein Peterson damn sure proved she’s still as entertaining and charming as ever, the legendary actress dropped a pretty big bombshell about the future of Elvira. As it turns out, thirty years after her debut movie came out, another one may soon be on the way!
Peterson told us in Salem this past Thursday night that she has written a treatment for a brand new Elvira movie, noting that it wouldn’t play in theaters but rather would (if it happens) be found on one of the top streaming services. Peterson mentioned services like Netflix, Hulu and Shudder, revealing that she’s begun shopping the treatment around.
Mind you, this is one of those “hey, it could happen!” sort of projects rather than one that definitely *is* happening, but now would seem to be the perfect time to bring Elvira back. After all, Shudder recently brought back fellow horror host Joe Bob Briggs, a return that proved so successful that Briggs will be regularly returning to Shudder in the coming months.
If Peterson’s treatment is good, we can’t imagine Shudder (or even Netflix or Hulu) passing on the opportunity to be the official home of Elvira’s return. So keep those fingers crossed!
