We wrote up an article earlier this year about the original version of Rambo V, which was going to pit Sylvester Stallone up against a monster. Back in 2009, the film was set to be titled Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, and it was to be an adaptation of a novel that Stallone has long owned the rights to, James Byron Huggins’ Hunter.

Stallone explained back in September 2009, “It’s a feral monster. It’s a… thing. It’s this amalgamation of fury and intelligence and pure, unadulterated rage. It’s before men became… hu-men. This is when they were still inhuman. And so, what [Rambo] confronts is something that is everyone’s nightmare. He’s going against a feral beast that has absolute cunning and intelligence and a will to survive that is only matched by Rambo’s.”

Of course, that Rambo sequel never ended up getting made, and John Rambo will instead return next year to battle the Mexican cartel in Rambo 5, titled Rambo: Last Blood. That being said, Stallone still plans on adapting the Hunter novel, Deadline reports this week!

Balboa Productions is currently developing an adaptation of Hunter, the site reports, with Stallone attached to star. “The book centers on Nathaniel Hunter, whose hyper-tracking skills are employed to hunt down a raging beast, a half-human terror created by a renegade agency that is threatening to wreak havoc on civilization.”

The company is currently looking for a writer to pen the script.
