Yes, the original cast is all back in director Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland 2, which begins filming this coming January, but the writers promise it’ll be fresh and as original as possible.
Speaking with Slash Film, Paul Wernick described next year’s sequel as being “wholly original,” while Rhett Reese noted that it’s “mostly [stuff] not seen before and exciting.”
“We’re shooting that in January and can’t wipe the smile off our faces,” Wernick also told the site. “It’s the thing that Rhett and I as a team got our start on. It made us the screenwriters that we’ve become. That cast and the gang that’s back together with Ruben and our producer Gavin [Polone], the studio, we’re super, super excited about it. It’s pretty special and will come out basically 10 years from the first so it’s the perfect 10 year anniversary present I think.”
In Zombieland 2, “through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, the Zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”
Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin are all coming back.
The gang is set to return on October 11, 2019.
