Twenty years after Cast Away, Tom Hanks will again find himself alone in the world in the upcoming Bios, a post apocalyptic sci-fi film from Amblin Entertainment that Cast Away director Robert Zemeckis is on board to produce. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this project, mind you, but Deadline updates today that it’s still going forward.
Set to begin filming early 2019, Zemeckis says that Bios is “a really cool science-fiction story. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic world and Tom Hanks may or may not be the last human survivor on the planet.” Miguel Sapochnik is directing the film, releasing October 2, 2020.
“Hanks will portray Finch, the last man on earth, who decides he must plan for the worst by building a robot that could care for his dog. The canine is the only thing in the world that Finch truly loves. His challenge, however, is programming the robot to “love” the dog and teaching the dog to accept the strange synthetic newcomer as a member of their pack.”
Craig Luck (Solo: A Star Wars Movie) and Ivor Powell (Blade Runner) wrote the script.
