Even if you totally hated Suicide Squad, you must admit that Margot Robbie absolutely owned the role of Harley Quinn, and DC is being smart by putting Robbie’s Quinn front and center in the upcoming girl gang movie Birds of Prey, being directed by Cathy Yan. Robbie just revealed the full official title for the film tonight, and it teases a Quinn free of the Joker.
The full title is now Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Sorry, Joker. Harley is a free woman now, and she’s leading her gang into battle.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be starring alongside Robbie. Winstead will play Huntress, with Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Rosie Perez is playing Renee Montoya. Ella Jay Basco (“Veep,” “Teachers”) recently joined the cast as Cassandra Cain.
The film’s villain will be Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor.
Christina Hodson is working on the script. Robbie is also producing.
Birds of Prey has been dated for February 7, 2020.
