Kurt Russell Talks ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ Reboot, Which He Says He Likely Won’t Be In

We initially assumed that the upcoming Big Trouble in Little China, being produced by and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, would be a remake of John Carpenter’s film, but we learned earlier this year that it’s actually set to be something of a sequel. “What we’re planning to do is we’re going to continue the story,” producer Hiram Garcia noted back in August.

He added, “We’re going to continue the universe of Big Trouble in Little China. Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there’s only one person that could ever play Jack Burton, so Dwayne would never try and play that character.”

The big question we now have? If the reboot is actually a continuation of the original film, will Kurt Russell be reprising the beloved role of Jack Burton?! Probably not, sadly.

Speaking with USA Today, Russell noted that he “probably won’t be” in the upcoming movie, which would certainly suggest that he hasn’t yet been contacted about coming back.

[Dwayne’s] just a really good guy. I like working with him and if he’s going to do it, he and his crew will hopefully be able to come up with something that I guess makes the title work,” Russell continued. He added, “I always say the same thing, which is, well, you’ve got to make a good movie.”
