Remaking a classic Dario Argento film, especially Suspiria, is certainly no easy task, but Luca Guadagnino damn sure made the movie his own with a fresh new take on the material that expands well beyond anything on display in Argento’s 1977 masterpiece. Suspiria 2018 is truly its own beast entirely, and goddamn is it is a nasty, gruesome movie at times.
The much talked about death scene of the character named Olga, in particular, is without question this year’s most brutal and unsettling sequence, and the film’s final act is a literal explosion of blood, guts and total insanity. Needless to say, there’s a whole lot of effects work in the film, and prosthetics artist Mark Coulier details the various techniques in this featurette.
