The Director’s Cut of ‘The House That Jack Built’ Popped Up for Purchase on YouTube… and Then Vanished

Following last week’s “Director’s Cut” screenings that landed IFC Films in hot water with the MPAA, Lars von Trier’s The House That Jack Built is headed to limited theaters and VOD next Friday, December 14, but the version you’ll be able to stream will be the rated “R” cut, rather than that unrated Director’s Cut. Last we heard, the Director’s Cut is coming next year.

Oddly enough, however, the Director’s Cut actually hit YouTube last night, where it could be purchased for $13.99. It seems the film was available for several hours overnight, but as of this morning, the listing has been completely taken down. And yes, YouTube indeed was promoting their version as the “Director’s Cut,” and many did manage to purchase it in time.

Keep your eyes peeled. We’re wondering if it’ll pop up again at some point…

In the film, Matt Dillon stars as a serial killer who views each of his murders as a work of art. Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), Bruno Ganz (Downfall), and Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road) also star with South Korean actor, Yu Ji-tae, best known to us genre fans as the antagonist in Park Chan-wook’s 2003 hardboiled thriller Oldboy.

Rafael reviewed the film out of Sitges and explained that, “The nihilism of Lars von Trier’s darkly comedic The House That Jack Built rivals American Psycho.”

Matilda Firth Joins the Cast of Director Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’ Movie

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
