We learned just last week that one crazy alternate ending that was actually filmed for The Predator featured the arrival of Ellen Ripley as the “Predator Killer,” though the character was not actually played by Sigourney Weaver. As it turns out, another ending vastly different from the one we got was also filmed, this one featuring Newt from Aliens!
Again, Hollywood artist Yuri Everson reveals and details this scrapped scene.
“We shot 3 different endings for The Predator, all variations of a “Predator Killer”. This unused ending was Predator Killer Newt aka Rebecca Jordan wearing the breather mask we created for the film,” Everson explains over on Instagram. “You can see her name there on the monitors. Breanna Watkins played Newt. The moving “fingers” and “tail” on the mask were deemed too facehugger-like on the day and were cut and removed by someone… Sorry @jon_k_miller who headed up making the breather mask for us @thestudioadi with @saratheterra, @ape5150, Zach Teller and Lord Garth but they made me do it! Michael Diner and his amazing Vancouver crew made the pod. All in no time flat.”
Newt was of course unceremoniously killed off in Alien 3, and she was going to return to the franchise in Neill Blomkamp’s sequel to Aliens. That film, sadly, never ended up happening.
Obviously, both the Newt and Ripley alternate endings suggest that Fox wanted to create a new Alien/Predator shared universe, an idea totally left on the cutting room floor.
