Upcoming Christmas Horror Anthology ‘Deathcember’ Will Feature Lucky McKee and Ruggero Deodato!

Nothing piques my interest quite like a new Christmas horror movie, and the upcoming Deathcember is certainly one that has just made its way onto my radar. Billed as “the ultimate advent horror anthology movie,” this first of its kind anthology “consists of 24 shorts by 24 directors from around the globe, taking a look at the dark side of the festive season.”

The project’s press release indicates, “With its tagline 24 Doors to Hell, the movie unmistakably positions itself at the heart of the horror genre. Nevertheless it will offer audiences a thoroughly diversified viewing experience, with shorts that range from classic scares to black comedy to action to sci-fi to pure, brutal splatter.”

Deathcember‘s line-up of directors includes big names as well as up-and-comers, from genre mainstays such as Lucky McKee (The Woman) and Trent Haaga (68 Kill) to festival favorites like Isaac Ezban (Parallel) and Lazar Bodroza (Ederlezi Rising) to exciting fresh talent, such as Chelsea Stardust (Fangoria’s Satanic Panic) and Sam Wineman (The Quiet Room).

Also attached as directors are names like Pollyanna McIntosh (Darlin’) and, as a special surprise, the living genre legend, Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust)!

A rough cut is planned to be finished by May 2019; the world premiere is already fixed for Sitges in October 2019, with a small chance for it to take place even earlier, at Fantastic Fest in Austin, September 2019. Depending upon negotiations, the movie will see its theatrical or home entertainment release in all markets sometime in late 2019 or in 2020.

If you’re interested in helping out, Deathcember is in the final days of raising final funds to get the project done and released as soon as possible. Head over to Kickstarter to pitch in.

Dev Patel’s ‘Monkey Man’ Is Now Available to Watch at Home!

After pulling in $28 million at the worldwide box office this month, director (and star) Dev Patel’s critically acclaimed action-thriller Monkey Man is now available to watch at home.

You can rent Monkey Man for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99!

Monkey Man is currently 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro awarding the film 4.5/5 stars in her review out of SXSW back in March.

Meagan raves, “While the violence onscreen is palpable and painful, it’s not just the exquisite fight choreography and thrilling action set pieces that set Monkey Man apart but also its political consciousness, unique narrative structure, and myth-making scale.”

“While Monkey Man pays tribute to all of the action genre’s greats, from the Indonesian action classics to Korean revenge cinema and even a John Wick joke or two, Dev Patel’s cultural spin and unique narrative structure leave behind all influences in the dust for new terrain,” Meagan’s review continues.

She adds, “Monkey Man presents Dev Patel as a new action hero, a tenacious underdog with a penetrating stare who bites, bludgeons, and stabs his way through bodies to gloriously bloody excess. More excitingly, the film introduces Patel as a strong visionary right out of the gate.”

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

Monkey Man is produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
