‘Men in Black International’ Remains Canon; New Images

EW shares a pair of new images of Thor: Ragnarok co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson (also the co-star of Creed) in Men in Black International, this year’s reboot of the Men in Black franchise that was directed by F. Gary Gray.

In the film:

“Em tries to prove herself by joining the London MIB and will be paired with Agent H. The pair will become involved in a murder mystery that will lead to them on a global journey.”

The new film doesn’t ignore Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones‘ former roles, explains executive producer E. Bennett Walsh: “We went into the project knowing the deep affection we and the fans have for Will and Tommy,” he promises. “We’re not replacing them, simply adding to their team.” As the magazine explains, the fourth film is both a sequel and a continuation.

Stringing it together, Emma Thompson (Men in Black III) will reprise the role of Agent O. The new cast also includes Liam Neeson, Rebecca Ferguson, Rafe Spall and Kumail Nanjiani, who is introduced as “a new alien sidekick” named Pawny.

As for the film’s direction, producer Walter F. Parkes says this one is very different than its predecessors.  “I think the biggest difference [in this story] is that this time the enemy is within. MIB has been compromised from inside, which leads them on a globe-trotting adventure to discover the true nature of the threat.”

There’s a ton more that can be read in EW’s feature article.

Sony is set to release the new film on June 14, 2019.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
