The 91st Oscar nominations were announced early Tuesday morning. It comes with great sorrow to tell you all that Toni Collette was snubbed for a “Lead Actress” nomination for her extraordinary work in A24’s Hereditary, directed by Ari Aster. While the film may be divisive among fans, let’s at least take the time to appreciate Collette’s outstanding performance that should be celebrated among the greatest films of all time. She should be out there representing our genre, which is once again ignored by the film elite. This is one of the most vicious snubs in recent memory.
At least one genre film snuck its way into next month’s ceremony as Paramount Pictures’ A Quiet Place, directed by John Krasinski, received an Oscar nomination for “Best Sound Editing” and will go up against Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, First Man, and ROMA. I think the gimmick alone gives it the edge over its competition.
The Academy Awards will air live Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on ABC. I won’t be watching.
