A few years before his masterpiece Oldboy, South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook directed Joint Security Area, which is now getting an English-language remake simply titled JSA.
Deadline reports today that Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049) and Demián Bichir (The Nun) will star in the thriller, a “reworking” of Chan-wook’s film from 2000.
The film centers on the love affair between a U.S. Marine and a female Spanish infantry lawyer who is sent by The Hague to investigate a shoot-out between Marines and Mexican special forces.
David Franzoni (Gladiator) wrote the script, and he’s also set to direct.
Producers are Terry Botwick, Paul Yi, Marcus Englefield, and George Lee.
