1997 Broadway Musical ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ Getting a Feature Film Adaptation

Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella, the Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden-created 1997 musical Jekyll & Hyde ran for nearly four years on Broadway before being briefly revived in 2013, and Deadline reports today that it’s next headed to the big screen.

Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman) wrote the script and will produce under his Lexicon banner.

Bringing the gritty potential of Leslie [Bricusse] and Frank’s stirring gothic musical to the big screen made Jekyll & Hyde the perfect project to launch Lexicon, which is focused on character driven, muscular storytelling,” said Dinelaris.

Bricusse and Wildhorn add, “After 30 years of our stage productions playing successfully in almost every major country in the world, we are absolutely thrilled to see our musical version of Jekyll and Hyde becoming a major motion picture.”

Richard Saperstein’s Bluestone Entertainment will also produce, alongside Lexicon’s Dinelaris and Rob Quadrino, and Fezziwig Studios’ Dan Angel, Brian Gott, and Marc Iannarino. Phil Kim and David Segel will serve as executive producers.
