With its $365 million worldwide gross last year, director Corin Hardy’s spinoff solo film The Nun is the highest grossing film in the entire Conjuring Universe to date, so as you might expect, Warner Bros/New Line are pretty hungry for a sequel right about now. And franchise universe producer Peter Safran teases that a sequel is indeed already in the works!
“I think there is an inevitability to another Nun movie,” Safran just told EW. “We have a really fun storyline for that teed up, so I think that’s the next one that will be written.”
Actress Bonnie Aarons first played the demonic Valak in James Wan’s The Conjuring 2, a character added into the film pretty late in the game. The rest, as they say, is horror history.
The next film in the Conjuring Universe will be this year’s Annabelle Comes Home, with The Conjuring 3 set for release next year. A spinoff film for The Crooked Man is also likely.
Oddly enough, this month’s The Curse of La Llorona (read our review) is technically part of the Conjuring Universe, but to date it has never actually been promoted to be.
