Milla Jovovich Responds to ‘Hellboy’ Criticisms; “All My Raddest Films Have Been Slammed By Critics”
Like last year’s The Predator, Neil Marshall’s similarly gory, big budgeted, action-horror-heavy Hellboy is being ruthlessly ripped apart by critics, even if many horror fans (myself included) had an absolute blast with it. This new take on the character no doubt has some major issues, but particularly for the gore-hound horror crowd, it’s nothing if not a gory good time.
Milla Jovovich plays the villain Nimue (aka the Blood Queen) in the film, and taking to Instagram over the weekend, the actress responded to the harshest of Hellboy criticisms.
Jovovich wrote:
“It’s always stressful on opening weekend and @hellboymovie is no different. You work super hard to make something fun and entertaining and have to absorb the negative reviews by movie critics, but hey! THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY.😎 All I’m gonna say before going to bed is this: All my raddest films have been slammed by critics. It’s fucking hilarious. Dazed and Confused? Seriously? Classic movie. The Fifth Element! You would have thought that was the worst movie ever made if you read the reviews in like ‘98😂. Zoolander? Slammed. Joan of Arc? Disaster. Resident Evil? Let’s not even go there. Anyway, every one of those films is now a cult classic. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. And this will be too. Mark my words.”
“Why? 1. Because of the amazing actors. David Harbour. Ian Mcshane. Daniel Dae Kim. Sasha Lane. They are all so damn wonderful and talented, the movie is worth seeing just because they’re in it, especially one that’s so much fun to experience as this is. 2. @mikemignola who created the #Hellboy comics helped write the script and was on set every single day to make this film as close to his vision as possible. 3. It was directed by one of the greats. #NeilMarshall who brought us “The Descent”. One of the greatest horror movies ever. Trust me, you’re gonna have a blast watching the new @hellboymovie. I mean, one critic said “it’s a loud, gory mess only a teenager would love.”😂👍🏼👊🏼HELL yea Hellboy! Let’s have some fun! And with that, I wish you all a good night! Xo m😘”
Like many recent movies, there’s quite a disparity between the “Tomatometer” and the “Audience Score” percentages for Hellboy on Rotten Tomatoes, with the former coming in “rotten” at just 15% and the latter holding relatively strong at 63%. Hellboy ’19 is no doubt made with a pretty specific crowd in mind, and it seems that at least that crowd is digging it.
Do you agree with Jovovich? Will Marshall’s Hellboy someday find its audience, the way many of her past films eventually did? Personally speaking, I think she’s pretty spot on here…

‘Rosemary’s Baby’ Prequel ‘Apartment 7A’ from ‘Relic’ Director Heads to Paramount+ This Halloween
Get ready to revisit the Bramford apartment building this Fall. Paramount+ today announced that the all-new original film set before Rosemary’s Baby, Apartment 7A, will premiere this Halloween season exclusively on the streaming service.
Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to the horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse moved in.

Directed by Relic filmmaker Natalie Erika James, the film stars Julia Garner (Ozark, Wolf Man), Dianne Wiest (Mayor of Kingstown), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean film series). Additional supporting cast includes Marli Siu (Anna and the Apocalypse), Andrew Buchan (All the Money in the World), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Wonka).
In Apartment 7A, “When a struggling, young dancer (Garner) suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.”

The psychological thriller is a Paramount+ original movie in association with Paramount Pictures and is based on the novel Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin. Directed by James, with a screen story by Skylar James and a script by Natalie Erika James & Christian White and Skylar James, the film is executive produced by Vicki Dee Rock and Alexa Ginsburg, and is produced by John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, p.g.a, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, p.g.a, and Brad Fuller.
While Paramount+ hasn’t announced the official debut date just yet, expect Apartment 7A to arrive just in time for Halloween as part of the streamer’s Peak Screaming collection that offers a broad and popular lineup of new originals, fan-favorite horror movies and iconic Halloween episodes from beloved series.
