At one point, Sony’s new live action Masters of the Universe movie had been set for release in December 2019, but it had been pretty clear for a while now that He-Man’s return wasn’t actually going to make that date. After all, filming hasn’t even begun.
Indeed it won’t, as Sony is now eyeing a 2020 release for Masters.
Last we heard, brothers Adam and Aaron Nee (Band of Robbers) had been hired to direct a script penned by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Men in Black: International, Iron Man).
Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) is reportedly in talks to play the new movie’s He-Man. Dolph Lundgren played the character in the ’87 film.
The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as the 1987 film. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.
Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, as well as DeVon Franklin are producing, with David S. Goyer (who wrote the first draft) executive producing.
