New ‘Child’s Play’ Poster Has a Little Fun With the Shared ‘Toy Story 4’ Release Date

Published

on

As a clever little bit of counter-programming, Orion Pictures will be releasing Lars Klevberg‘s Child’s Play remake on June 21st, the very same day Toy Story 4 is released in theaters.

The film’s latest poster plays up the release date fun, with Chucky slaying Woody… but it’s even more clever than it first appeared. Orion used the exact same color scheme from the Toy Story 4 poster so it looks as if Chucky quite literally walked into the art and murdered the Pixar character! This has to be one of the most clever pieces of marketing we’ve seen this year.

In Klevberg’s modern take on the horror classic, a mother (Aubrey Plaza) gives her son (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Mark Hamill is the new voice of Chucky.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Austrian filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (The Lodge, Goodnight Mommy) are back with new horror movie The Devil’s Bath, and it’s coming to Shudder this summer.

The Devil’s Bath debuts on Shudder June 28, Variety reports today.

The film makes its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the German-language horror movie: “In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts, until the possibility of committing a shocking act of violence seems like the only way out of her inner prison.”

Anja PlaschgDavid ScheidMaria HofstätterCamilla Schielin, and Lorenz Tröbinger star. You can check out a first look image above. Expect the trailer in the coming weeks.

The filmmakers tell Variety, “We want to see the world how it is, and that’s of course sometimes very difficult and painful, but I think we owe it to ourselves and other human beings to be honest about everything that’s not great in the world. Many movies just depict the world as a humongous place that’s amazing to live in. We think sometimes that’s not true and feel the responsibility to look into those pieces.”

The Devil’s Bath is produced by Heimatfilm Productions and Ulrich Seidl Productions as a co-production with Heimatfilm and Coop99 Filmproduktion.
