Quentin Tarantino Dismissive About Revisiting ‘Kill Bill’

The Old Guard 2 Uma Thurman

Social media was in a rage last week when Netflix silently dropped a vastly different version of Quentin Tarantino‘s 2015 western The Hateful Eight, which was edited into four chapters and presented as a series. Instead of screaming and yelling, the good folks at /Film actually reached out to Tarantino who explained that he not only approved, but was intricately involved.

While George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have previously touched their older works, this is something Tarantino has been talking about for years. With that said, there could be more of this in the future. Unfortunately, it sounds like the long-discussed Kill Bill extended cut – dubbed Kill Bill the Whole Bloody Affair –  won’t be one of them.

When asked by the site about revisiting his two-part revenge story starring Uma Thurman, Tarantino glossed over it with an implication that it’s not something he plans to retouch.

“[There’s] the idea that now you can make a movie, and the movie is the movie, and the movie has all the limitations that the movie has that a novel doesn’t have, that’s the way it is,” Tarantino told the site. “But the idea that after that, after that is done, after that movie is said and done, not that that’s just some ghost or some weird little version, but the idea that you could have a fuller version come out, after the fact, that’s kind of exciting. That’s kind of interesting. Now, in the case of Kill Bill the Whole Bloody AffairKill Bill is the one movie I’ve made where everything I shot is in the movie, because we had two movies.”

This does not sound like he’s even open to entertaining revisiting Kill Bill, which was not only split into two films, but also beat up by the MPAA. In the first volume, the climactic battle between The Bride and Yakuza was turned black and white to appease the board. Released internationally in full color, we’ve never received a proper uncut release here in the States. While this wouldn’t require Tarantino to be involved, it would be nice to have the auteur use his power to give fans the ultimate cut we’ve been promised for over a decade now.

Little Mermaid horror

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.

Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.

The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”

In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.

“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”

Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.

You can watch the trailer now over on MSR Media International’s website.
