Disney Announces a New 2020 Release Date for ‘The New Mutants’

Published

The Josh Boone-directed The New Mutants has been a troubled production, originally set for release in 2018 but pushed back multiple times to the point that we’ve begun to wonder if it’s ever going to be released at all. Most recently, an August 2019 release date was attached to the film, but it has been delayed yet again now that Disney has acquired Fox.

Disney has announced that they’ll release The New Mutants in theaters on April 3, 2020.

In the film, “five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.”

The cast includes Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa a.k.a Sunspot, a mutant with the ability to absorb and channel solar power; Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, the Native American telepath also known as “Mirage”; Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself but also has more going on than she lets on; Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin, also known as Magik, who uses teleportation; Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball; and Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, who can turn into a wolf.

Allegedly, the release of the horror-superhero film was originally delayed to make it scarier, with a series of reshoots planned to change the tone and even add a new character.

We have no idea at this time what (if anything) has been changed or added to the movie, nor do we know if The New Mutants will be released as a PG-13 or rated “R” movie.
