The UK’s genre film festival Grimmfest is launching the production company Grimmfest Films, Screen Daily let us know today, and one of the upcoming films on their slate is Dream Warriors and The Blob director Chuck Russell‘s Witchboard, a remake of the same-named 1986 horror film that we’ve been hearing rumblings about for a couple years now!
The site notes, “Grimmfest’s development slate includes Chuck Russell’s Witchboard, a reimagining of the 1986 horror of the same name, which is co-written by Russell and producer Greg McKay. Grimmfest will co-produce the project, on which it is partnering with Falconer Pictures, M2 Media Post Inc and Minds Eye Entertainment.”
Russell told us in 2017, “It uses the original as a springboard to take us into a far deeper supernatural fantasy.”
In writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s original movie, “Friends playing with an Ouija board at a late-night party unleash a demonic spirit who begins hunting them.”
