Check Out First Reactions to ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’; “Most Insane Kaiju Action We Have Ever Seen”

Most of us still have to wait a couple weeks to see Michael Dougherty‘s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but now that some screenings have taken place and the social media embargo has lifted, we’ve at least got some early reactions to tide us over. And as expected, the film has been playing like gangbusters, with rave reviews hitting Twitter over the weekend.

To quickly sum up all the reactions we’ve seen, the consensus looks to be that King of the Monsters is absolutely epic, a visual stunner that is loaded with the monster action many were disappointed to not see all that much of back in 2014. Whereas Godzilla ’14 held back and made you wait for the mayhem, it looks like Dougherty’s sequel has no interest in such things. It’s clear he set out to make the craziest, most fun Kaiju movie to grace the big screen in a long, long time, and judging by these early reactions, it sounds like he succeeded big time.

Check out some rave Twitter reviews below!

The sequel takes place five years after the events in the first film:

“When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance and Aisha Hinds star.

Dougherty directed from a script he wrote with Zach Shields.

Godzilla returns on May 31, 2019.
