For many years, it seemed that Bill Murray was opposed to ever appearing in another Ghostbusters movie, but that all changed when he popped up for a cameo in Paul Feig’s 2016 remake. Granted, Murray didn’t actually play Peter Venkman in the film, but it was great to see him back in the franchise regardless. So… will he also be back in next year’s film?
Jason Reitman‘s Ghostbusters will be a sequel to the *original* movie, and at this time we don’t yet know if the original characters will return. But it seems Murray is open to the idea.
“I did [the remake] and I would do this next one,” Murray just told Indiewire.
“This franchise paid for my son’s college,” Murray added, reflecting on the Ghostbusters franchise as a whole. “We made this thing. We are the caretakers of it. It’s a great thing and it was a really fun movie to make. It’s a real movie with some really funny stuff in it.”
Filming is said to begin this summer on Reitman’s film, a sequel to the original Ghostbusters that will not be acknowledging the events of Paul Feig’s 2016 take on the classic.
Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things,” IT), Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel) and Carrie Coon (Widows) are thus far attached to star, playing the family at the center of the film.
“A family moves back home to a small town where they learn more about who they are.”
Reitman co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan.
Ghostbusters will return to theaters on July 10, 2020.
