Apparently There’s a Rumor About ‘Midnight Meat Train’ Sequels So the Writer Weighed In
Back in 2008, Japanese filmmaker Ryûhei Kitamura‘s first American film, a Jeff Buhler-penned adaptation of Clive Barker’s 1984 short story The Midnight Meat Train for Lionsgate, was getting ready to hit theaters amid a whole lot of buzz. Then suddenly the release was delayed, and the film was ultimately dumped onto a very small number of screens.
Despite the disaster that Kitamura calls a “terrorist attack” on his career, Midnight Meat Train found its audience, with many horror fans begging for a sequel. We haven’t actually heard any of these rumors but apparently rumors have been circulating that follow-ups are indeed in the works, so ComicBook.com had a chat with Buhler to see if there was any truth there.
“I have not had direct conversations about Midnight Meat Train, although I love that world,” Buhler told the site.
He continued, “And I think we never really got a good dose of what the fathers were all about, the way it ends in the film with the train conductor explaining the world of the fathers doesn’t get all the way into the mythology in the story, with the fathers and the maker and the history of this society under New York City, and how important it is to keeping the ecosystem of New York City healthy. The symbiotic relationship that these monsters have with the city itself. So I think there’s always opportunities; that’s a world that I would love to spend more time in.”
In other words, nothing Midnight Meat Train-related is in the works at this time. But hey, ya never know. The new Hellraiser film could make Barker’s stories a hot commodity once more.

It Ends marks the feature debut by writer-director Alexander Ullom.
“Four recent college grads on a night time drive find themselves stuck on a road that sprawls on forever, with seemingly no end in sight. They are occasionally attacked by stragglers and have to find a routine to plan their rest stops, but after a few thousand miles it all feels the same. Still, they keep on driving, only in the belief something better will come eventually.“
Akira Jackson, Phinehas Yoon, Mitchell Cole, and Noah Toth star.
“This was always a movie that was more about how we live with horror than about the actual horror. I make this joke too much, but I always wanted to see the family in Hereditary give a postgame interview and just be like, ‘Yeah, that was terrifying. That was absolutely terrifying.’ Then, they all die, obviously, but like they go about their lives. The movie is constantly recontextualizing the things that happen in it,” Alexander Ullom previously told BD.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her 4-star festival review for Bloody Disgusting, “It Ends captures a universal fear, that anxiety-inducing transition into full-blown adulthood where we’re all expected to become responsible contributors to society. It’s a lot of pressure with no clear guide. As such, it runs through every emotion that comes with that journey.”
Alexander Ullom is already a filmmaker to watch; the newcomer was recently tapped to helm 4 X 4: The Event, which is being described as Battle Royale meets Saw meets Climax.
