We had been told that Child’s Play was aiming for an “R” rating from the beginning, but we’ve just gotten official word that the MPAA has handed the film its “R” rating this week.
The Lars Klevberg-directed remake has been rated “R” for:
“Bloody horror violence, and language throughout.”
Producer Seth Grahame-Smith recently promised “intensity” and “gore” from the film.
In Klevberg’s modern take on the horror classic, a mother (Aubrey Plaza) gives her son (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.
Mark Hamill is the new voice of Chucky.
The cast also includes Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio and Brian Tyree Henry.
Klevberg directed from Tyler Burton Smith’s (Kung Fury) screenplay.
Child’s Play slashes its way to theaters on June 21, 2019.
