The next Terminator, directed by Deadpool‘s Tim Miller, retcons all sequels post T2: Judgment Day. This is important because, with the help of franchise creator James Cameron, they’ve turned the story once again back to Linda Hamilton‘s Sarah Connor.
While there’s said to be a baton pass in the direction of either Mackenzie Davis or Natalia Reyes, we now know why the machines have returned. The official Twitter account made the reveal in response to a fansite’s inquiry into the film’s official poster, which was hiding within a faux Sarah Connor account. When asked, the official account confirmed, “You’ve identified the official poster. She is the one we’ve been looking for.“
This is an extremely telling response in that the one-sheet solely features Hamilton’s ultra badass character, meaning that the machines have returned for her (again). The question is, where has she been hiding all this time and how has she evaded the machines in the future?
Interestingly, the tagline on the poster exclaims, “Welcome to the day after judgment day.” Could this also pick up in the past, with us seeing younger versions of the Judgment Day cast? Maybe tomorrow’s trailer debut will reveal more?
Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) also returns to his iconic role. Following the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator: Dark Fate also stars Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta.
Paramount is releasing the new movie on November 1st, 2019.
