It was immediately clear right off the bat that Adam Robitel‘s Escape Room was one horror film that was loaded with franchise potential, and as we recently learned, we are (at the very least) getting a sequel real soon. Robitel will return to direct Escape Room 2 for Sony, which is being penned by the returning Bragi F. Schut and produced by Neal H. Moritz.
Sony’s original release date for the sequel was April 17, 2020, but we’ve learned tonight (via @ERCBoxOffice) that Escape Room 2 will now be unlocking on August 14, 2020.
Escape Room, released this past January, pulled in $118.6 million worldwide on a $9m production budget.
The soon-to-be-a-franchise follows strangers who find themselves in a maze of deadly rooms, forced to work together and use their wits to find the clues and escape… or die.
