Heather Langenkamp Talks ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Hopes; “I’d Love to Reprise Nancy”

It used to be that there was no going backwards once a franchise was given the remake treatment, but in recent years, Evil Dead and Halloween have proven that the times have changed. Even in the wake of remakes, both franchises returned to their original continuities, so there’s always hope that A Nightmare on Elm Street will someday do the same.

Over the years, Elm Street star Heather Langenkamp has repeatedly expressed interest in playing franchise heroine Nancy Thompson again, and even Robert Englund no longer seems completely opposed to putting the red & green sweater back on one more time. Given the smash hit success of Halloween last year, why the hell not… right?

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Langenkamp has again expressed that she’d be 100% on board.

I would really love to reprise Nancy in a way, because I feel that there’s more of that story to be told, certainly,” Langenkamp told the site. “But I don’t know if there’s anyone out there who is as imaginative as Wes Craven, who could figure it out. I just don’t know. I don’t see enough great storylines that would incorporate Nancy in any universe. I just don’t know if that exists, but some brilliant person might be working on something. But I know the fans would love it so much, because I see them in these situations where they’re so enthusiastic.”

The actress continued, “They’re such great fans that the horror genre just doesn’t seem to appreciate them enough. I constantly walk away with, these are people who have created a genre just out of pure love over the past 30 years. Their love of these movies has actually buoyed this genre in a way that no other genres, I think, can say that’s the reason why they’re so successful. And so, for their sake, I think, give them what they want. If this is what they want, they’re telling me they want it, then why wouldn’t you give people what they want?

I hope that fans can express what they want and actually feel like people listen.”

As of last October, Langenkamp had noted that she’d heard nothing about any sort of Nightmare on Elm Street movie being actively in the works. But maybe if we keep begging…

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
