We’ve learned today via Deadline that RLJE Films has acquired the supernatural thriller Mary, starring Gary Oldman and Emily Mortimer. They’ve set an October 11 theatrical and digital date.
Michael Goi, known for directing 2011’s Megan is Missing and a handful of “American Horror Story” episodes, directed the film. The script was written by Anthony Jaswinski, writer of The Shallows.
“Mary centers on a struggling family that buys an old ship at auction with the high hopes of starting a charter business, only to discover the ship’s horrifying secrets on the isolated open waters.”
“Oldman plays David, a struggling blue-collar captain looking to make a better life for his family. Strangely drawn to an abandoned ship named Mary that is up for auction, he impulsively buys the boat, believing it will be his family’s ticket to happiness and prosperity. After they embark on their maiden journey, however, strange and frightening events begin to terrorize David and his family, causing them to turn on one another.The ship soon drifts off course, and it becomes clear they are being lured to an even greater evil waiting for them at sea.”
The cast also includes Owen Teague, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Jennifer Esposito and Stefanie Scott.
