Kevin James Replacing Simon Pegg as the Villain in Upcoming Home Invasion Action-Thriller ‘Becky’
We had learned back in May that Simon Pegg would be playing the villain in an upcoming film titled Becky, but an update on the project today lets us know that Pegg is out and Kevin James is in. James will star alongside Annabelle: Creation‘s Lulu Wilson in the action-thriller.
As reported by Deadline, “Producers cited a scheduling conflict as the reason for Pegg’s exit.”
“The film centers on rebellious 14-year-old Becky (Wilson) as she’s brought to a weekend getaway at a lake house by her father in an effort to try to reconnect after her mother’s death. The trip takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (James), suddenly invade the lake house.”
“Becky, not daddy’s little girl anymore, decides to take matters into her own hands.”
Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion are directing.
Nick Morris, Ruckus Skye and Lane Skye wrote the script.
Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
