We had been promised the return of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in an upcoming “The Walking Dead” movie, which we had assumed was going to be airing only on AMC. In fact, it was originally advertised as being a made-for-TV movie, but AMC has made the surprise announcement out of Comic-Con today that the movie is coming to theaters!
The untitled movie will be playing “only in theaters,” they say.

Andrew Lincoln will no longer be appearing on “The Walking Dead,” the AMC series, but last we heard, the plan was to bring him back for at least three feature films.
This first movie will explore the story of where Rick was taken when we last saw him on the show, and what he faces in a new corner of the zombie apocalypse.
Universal will release the film in theaters.
