Announced at Comic-Con over the weekend, Marvel is bringing Blade back to the big screen with a Phase 5 movie starring Mahershala Ali as the title character, which officially brings the iteration of the franchise starring Wesley Snipes as the daywalker to an end. Snipes has wanted to reprise the role for many years now, so what does he think about all this?
Chatting with ComicBook.com, Snipes reacted to Marvel’s massive SDCC announcement.
“To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx,” Snipes said in a statement issued to the site. “Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL GOOD. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together.”
Snipes continued, “Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”
Snipes of course played Blade in three films beginning in 1998, before the MCU was even a thing. Who knows, maybe a cameo appearance in the new movie isn’t out of the question!
