This morning, Variety ran an article on Balboa Productions, the production company run by Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood that the duo hopes to make into the “Blumhouse of action films.” In other words, they want to help champion new voices and fresh action material, and the article touches upon a few projects they currently have in development.
One of them, interestingly enough, is actually a monster movie!
Variety notes in the piece, “Balboa’s inaugural slate has five feature films in advanced development. These include the monster movie Arcane, from director Corin Hardy.”
Hardy made his feature debut with the monster movie The Hallow back in 2015, and he more recently directed last year’s The Nun. We have no further info on Arcane at this time.
“I like stories that deal with modern-day mythology, which is pretty much what Marvel is,” says Stallone. “You take situations like the trope of the loner, the stranger in town, and you watch him cope with the forces that be. To me that’s very intriguing. That plays out in the genesis of the Western, all the way out to the horror genre.”
