Kickstarter Launched for ‘The Stylist’ Feature-Film

Published

on

The team behind the outrageously successful short film The Stylist has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the feature-length adaptation. The campaign runs now through September 26th. This will be director Jill Gevargizian’s feature-film debut.

“It was always my intention from the conception of this story for it to be a feature, but I needed more experience first,” she explains. “Five years and a dozen projects later, I feel more than ready.”

The Stylist is a psychological horror/thriller about Claire, played by Najarra Townsend (Contracted), a very lonely hairstylist who dreams of being someone else… anyone else. Her job allows her to move in and out of other people’s worlds, but when the right target sits in her chair, she does more than observe the client’s life – she ends it, and keeps a permanent souvenir.

Naturally, viewers and critics have drawn comparisons to Maniac and the team behind The Stylist wears it as a badge of honor. To prove that point, artist Lou Rusconi has designed a poster – only available through the Kickstarter Campaign – that is an homage to the original Maniac poster.

Gevargizian is no stranger to the scene. The Stylist short film released in 2016 and played countless film festivals across the globe, winning 20 awards along the way, including Best Actress in a Short Film at Fantastic Fest and Monster Fest, plus the Jury Award and Audience Choice at Etheria Film Night. It streamed on Shudder for two years, but now you can watch it for free on Vimeo or YouTube. She has directed and/or produced over a dozen other projects over the years including Call Girl, 42 Counts, BFF Girls, and has a brand new short currently playing film festivals titled One Last Meal.

“I’ve been through a lot lately that has further instilled the idea that life is very short and time is precious as hell — that’s why I’m taking this leap of faith…” Gevargizian adds.
