The legendary Tom Atkins was of course the leading man in 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch, a unique sequel that attempted to re-imagine the franchise as an anthology of unconnected tales dealing with the horrors of the Halloween season. Atkins played Dan Challis in the film, a doctor on a quest to save the world from an evil Halloween mask-maker.
Could we ever see Atkins return to the Halloween franchise? Well, it would seem director David Gordon Green is a big fan of Halloween III, working in an Easter egg cameo from the Silver Shamrock masks in last year’s Halloween, so perhaps a cameo appearance from Atkins himself isn’t out of the question for either Halloween Kills or Halloween Ends?
For what it’s worth, Atkins would jump at the opportunity.
“I would love to do a cameo in one of the new ones, I’d jump right in that,” the Halloween III star just told ComicBook.com. “I would love to do that. I haven’t seen Jamie [Lee Curtis recently]. A lot of people think, ‘Oh my God, all you Hollywood people live on the same block, and you see each other all the time.’ And we don’t. But she and I, we did see each other about four or five years ago in Indianapolis, where she did a convention as a fundraiser for the [Los Angeles Children’s Hospital]. And it was great seeing her again. And it was really easy and nice being around her.”
Atkins, of course, starred alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in The Fog.
What’s perhaps most interesting about this new interview with Atkins, however, is that he seems to drop the reveal that original Halloween star Charles Cyphers is returning in one of the upcoming sequels to last year’s Halloween. Cyphers played Leigh Brackett in both Halloween and Halloween II, the sheriff of Haddonfield and the father of Annie Brackett.
“And I think Chuck Cyphers…is going to be in this next one,” Atkins told the site. “He was in a bunch of those early ones, the original and a bunch thereafter. So he’s going to be in it. I would love to do it. But [the filmmakers], so far, they haven’t jumped out at me.”
