With Warner Bros. Joker set to World Premiere at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival, they’ve starting ramping up the PR with a series of snippets that tee up a brand new trailer.
The footage really zeroes in on Todd Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
The clips string together a series of events, from breakdown to said bad decision, and eventually him cowering(?) in a refrigerator. The icing on the cake is Robert De Niro‘s Franklin, which foreshadows the arrival of the “Joker”. And coolest of all, the new clips each contain a hidden message. Put together, they reveal a secret announcement: Trailer 8.28.
Expect the brand new trailer this Wednesday!
The film will be released in theaters on October 4.
