I came across an awesome bit of information a few weeks ago in an issue of Production Weekly (Aug. 15, 2019) that I had hoped to confirm before posting. While I have yet to do so, news has hit various websites about the next potential project for Richard Kelly.
According to the online magazine, Kelly is in development on a feature film that chronicles the true story of the life of Rod Serling, creator of “The Twilight Zone”.
Serling, who passed away in 1975 at the age of 50, “was an American screenwriter, playwright, television producer, and narrator known for his live television dramas of the 1950s and his science-fiction anthology TV series, ‘The Twilight Zone’. Serling was active in politics, both on and off the screen, and helped form television industry standards. He was known as the “angry young man” of Hollywood, clashing with television executives and sponsors over a wide range of issues including censorship, racism, and war.” (Wiki)
“The Twilight Zone” has been revived several times, including this year’s CBS All Access series with Jordan Peele acting as host.
The project is in development at Mandalay Pictures with Jason Michael Berman and Kevin Turen producing.
Kelly, who is also writing the docufilm, is an avid “Twilight Zone” fan having directed The Box, a feature film adaptation of Richard Matheson’s “Button, Button” that was initially adapted into a “Zone” episode. Kelly became a fan favorite with his mind-bending cult classic Donnie Darko.
