In the wake of its world premiere last weekend as part of the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival, director Galder Gaztelu-Irrutia‘s genre film The Platform (El Hoyo) has been scooped up by Netflix. The streaming service acquired worldwide rights – “outside of some Asian territories” – Deadline reports today.
In the Spanish-language sci-fi thriller, “A citizen of a not-too-distant dystopia voluntarily incarcerates himself with the promise of increased social mobility upon release, but becomes so radicalized by his captivity that he will risk everything to ride a devilish dumbwaiter on a one-way ticket to protect a panna cotta.”
Ivan Massague (Pan’s Labyrinth), Antonia San Juan (All About My Mother), Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale and Alexandra Masangkay star.
David Desola and Pedro Rivera wrote the film’s script.
